We developed our mentorship program, Starting Point, in 2020 in response to a need in the dance community. In the past years that need has shifted from guidance and support to autonomy and resources.
In 2022 we shifted this program to serve as a hybrid between Starting Point and an artist residency. Moving forward we are developing a sustainable community-conscious residency program.
Although this program has paused, we are always available for informal mentorship. Feel free to reach out via the form below.
Starting Point Support Program for Emerging Movers
Untellable recognizes that there are barriers that prevent certain individuals from pursuing dance both as an activity and as a vocation.
Our grassroots support program, Starting Point, offers guidance to emerging artists. We accept all artists, but will give priority to movers from under represented communities. These communities may include, but are not limited to, BIPOC artists, persons with disabilities, those that face economic challenges, those from rural and/or isolated communities, and members of the L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+ community.
Emerging movers will be matched with a mid-career or established artist based on their particular needs and offered two hours of support. This time can be used for post-secondary advice, grant writing assistance, industry information, outside eye assistance, as well as other forms of artistic and/or career support. Both artists will be paid for their time.
We look forward to the growth of this program as the organization grows- but for now, we would like to offer a “starting point”.
All members of this program are subject to Untellable’s Best Practices.
Untellable recognizes the need for further equity, diversity and inclusion in dance, movement theatre, and trans-disciplinary performance. We welcome all applications from potential “supporters”, but would love to engage BIPOC movers, movers with disabilities, and movers who identify as LGBTQIA+.
